So, let's give this a start why don't we.
Last night I was sitting at home experiencing one of the few nights that I get alone to myself, when I decided to watch a movie that many of my girl friends told me I should see. So I popped in The Vow starring none other then Channing Tatum (my future husband) and Rachel McAdams. So before I start, here is a little synopsis. In the movie we have Channing Tatum playing Leo and Rachel McAdams playing Leo's wife Paige. In the beginning Leo and Paige are driving in a car when they get into an accident causing Paige to go into a coma and when she awakens she has lost the memories from the past 5 years of her life, the five years in which she met and married Leo. The story continues to show how Leo struggles to get Paige to remember, and how Paige's family and ex-fiance are working on getting her to stay in the past with them.
So, where does Christ fit into this little story? Well there are two things but let's start with the relationship between Paige and Leo, a relationship that has so much love in it that Leo would do anything to get his wife to remember the past and remember what they had, but even more then that Leo is willing to give up his wife if that means she is happy. Leo has a love for Paige that many girls (myself included) would love to experience. So what if we are Paige and Leo is God? Now don't start thinking I am crazy here, just here me out. In this world life is full of impacts, just like the impact of a car crash. These impacts can bruise us and scar us, but; if the impact is hard enough it can cause everything to change, it can wipe our slates clean, even wiping our memories clean.
Leo: The moment of impact. The moment of impact proves potential for change. Has ripples effects far beyond what we can predict. Sending some particles crashing together. Making them closer than before. While sending others spinning off into great ventures. Landing them where you've never thought you've found them. That's the thing about moments like these. You can't, no matter how hard you try, controlling how it's gonna affect you. You just gotta let the colliding part goes where they may. And wait. For the next collision.
Here I will give you an example:
I was born and raised in the church. Going to church on Sundays was always a no brainer in my family and we lived our lives in the ways of Christ. Sunday School and youth group were things I always looked forward to in my life, and the moment I was able to go to church camp and church retreats I jumped on the opportunity. My love for God was unbreakable, just like Paige's love for Leo, nothing could stop me from proclaiming my faith and my love to the world. So when I started college I didn't get hit by one impacted, I got hit by a few. So my love was slowly forgotten. I had lost who God was in my life, like Paige I had forgotten how much this one person in my life loved me.
Leo: "I vow to fiercely love you in all your forms, now and forever. I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love."
God is like Leo, he will love us in all our forms, even when we forget who he is or what he will do for us.
"nothing above us, nothing below us, nor anything else in the whole world will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 8:39 NOTHING can stop God from loving us, not even our selves. Like Leo, God will do anything to get us back to loving him, he will never give up on us. God won't give up on us....
Paige: Leo... I hope one day I can love the way that you love me.
Leo: You did it at once, you'll do it again.
The truly amazing thing comes when you realize that God never left, that he is always waiting for you to run back to him, he is waiting with his arms wide open to catch you. In the movie Leo is the same way, he let's go of Paige, in order for her to figure out her life, but he sits back and waits for the day that she comes back to him. God does the same, he sits back and waits for our return, he waits for his Prodigal son to return to his loving embrace and remember the love that he has for us and we for him.
So.....that's great but I said there were two things I saw. So here is number 2! (But there are some spoilers for if you wanna watch the movie stop reading here)
Near the end of the movie, Paige remember the reason Leo had never met her family (when she loses her memory, her family comes in and you realize that in the last 5 years she has never seen her family, but it never explains why until the end). You see she learned that her father had cheated on her mother with one of Paige's best friend. Something that Leo knew but never told her. She starts by confronting her mother about why she was never told. Her mother explained that when Paige found out it ripped the family apart, and when Paige left it nearly killed her father, so in order to prevent that from happening again everyone in the family vowed not to tell Paige. Paige then goes on to ask why her mother never left her dad, the mom's response was this, "I chose to stay with him for all the things that he had done right, and not to live for the one thing that he done wrong. I chose to forgive him." Forgiveness! Isn't that a major part of Christian believe, and this is a big example of forgiveness. God forgives our sins, yet we find it so hard to forgive others when they sin against us. Shouldn't it be easy?
When Paige goes to Leo to confront him about the same thing she asks why he didn't tell her, he responded saying that he wanted her to be happy and he wanted her to love her family again so he protected her from the thing that broke the family apart. Once again he is willing to protect Paige from hurt, like God protects us from hurt. But when that hurt does occur he is always there to comfort us and pick up the pieces.
So, there is my little thought process. I know that it gets crazy at times, but if you remember anything remember this. God loves us even when we lose the memory of his love, and he will fight for us til the end. He LOVES us!!!!! US as in you and me! How amazing is that? So go watch The Vow, not only for the adorable love story between Paige and Leo but also for the reminder of the love story between God and you.
