Who Is Jesus?

Okay so before I start today, I would love it if you watched this video. It is number three in a series of four but I am focusing on this one for today (later in the blog I might go on to talk about the others......we will see)

So did you watch it? Good job!

This is a video from the Vintage 21 collection. I was first introduced to this series in high school youth group after we had stumbled onto them. We watched them all and then read about how and why they were made. You see the church that made these had a great idea. They took the ideas that people have received about Jesus and made them into satirical videos. They pretty much gave Christians a video that illustrated what others see Jesus as based on what we do in our everyday lives.

So let's break down the video that is above. In it we see the disciples all sitting around as Jesus walks up to them, Jesus then begins to list off all the "sins" that each one did. Some examples (if you didn't watch the video) include John who "drank too much wine the other night, not way too much, just enough to get [Jesus] angry" and Matthew who "fell asleep in church." We have the guy who is off the hook because Jesus forgets his name. And then there is Thaddeus who stuck up is middle finger at someone who cut him off and Frank, well Frank knows what he did. And my personal favorite, Benjamin not wearing his W.W.J.D. bracelet. The video ends with the line from Jesus stating, "You're all evil; there is no hope. That's it. Thank you."

Wow, I don't know about you but I am super thankful that this isn't the real Jesus. I honestly would be terrified, no hope for not wearing a bracelet?! But this video brings up a good point, what are the people of the church telling others about Jesus based on our actions? Are we really telling people that if they cuss, or drink, or dance to closely with another person that there is no hope for them, that they are "evil." Shouldn't we be a little bit better then that. Shouldn't we show them God's forgiveness and the love that Jesus has for us? Shouldn't we show that there is more to being a follower of Christ then a WWJD bracelet? Yes it is great to not cuss and show support of what you believe in but that shouldn't be the only thing we show the rest of the world. I know in my life I want to radiate the light of Christ, to explode with the love of Christ. I want to be as bright as a firework in the darkness of night.....I want to let it shine like it has never shined before!!!

But know that there is more to our faith then not cussing and WWJD bracelets. There is so much more then that. Know that there is hope and that hope is Jesus. Jesus Christ loves us enough to die for our sins, sins that weren't even there. He died for them all, past, present, and future. He is a man that is so concerned for us that he gave up all that he had, his life. How amazing is that!?! He isn't concerned with the bracelets and nonsense. He is concerned for us, for our sins. He forgives us, He gives us hope and never turns His back to us. So let's fight against what the world sees as Christianity, let's show them what Christ's love really is. I dare you to shine bright in the love of Jesus.
